Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area - TOUR

Snyder's of Hanover
As the story goes, the humble pretzel began somewhere in southern France when a monk, making unleavened bread for Lent, got an idea for what to do with the leftover dough. He twisted it in a shape resembling praying arms folded across one’s chest and gave it to children as a “pretiola” or reward for having said their prayers.A snack was born.

Brought to America by early immigrants, the pretzel has been made in Hanover since 1909 when Snyder's founder Harry V. Warehime, began the Hanover Pretzel Company with a single recipe, Hanover Olde Tyme Pretzels.

Enjoy a free guided tour through Snyder’s of Hanover’s state-of-the-art production and distribution facility Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday by reservation. When you’re done, stop by the factory store and snack on free samples of freshly made pretzels and snacks.

(Note: The tour is not handicapped accessible.)
