Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area - TOUR
Susquehanna River Water Trail
The Susquehanna River is born in Cooperstown, N.Y. at Otsego Lake and travels 444 miles before emptying into the Chesapeake Bay. This water trail runs through a 53-mile section between Harrisburg to the north and the Mason-Dixon Line at the southern end.
The Lower Susquehanna River is more than 1 .5 miles wide in some sections and somewhat of a contradiction between industrial-influenced spans and other areas that are rural, scenic and abundant with bird and animal life.
Twenty-one interpretive exhibit panels, highlighting natural, cultural and historic events and resources, can be viewed at various river access points noted on the Water Trail Map and Guide.
The Lower Susquehanna River Water Trail is recommended by the American Canoe Association and is part of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network.
