Lancaster County Central Park
Located on the southern edge of Lancaster City, don’t let this park’s proximity to an urban center fool you. The 544-acre Central Park is Lancaster County’s largest and given its name because of its central location.
It’s also loaded with lots of interesting features including: the Rock Ford Plantation (the restored 1794 estate of Edward Hand, George Washington's adjutant general), a Native American burial ground and an area where inventor and county native Robert Fulton first experimented with the paddle-wheel boat on the Conestoga River.
The park contains numerous plant and animal habitats between Mill Creek and the Conestoga River. The park is broken down into many areas containing ball fields, basketball courts, a pool, playgrounds, pavilions, garden plots, and an environmental center.
Restrictions: No alcohol. No horseback riding or bikes in Kiwanis Area.
Programs: Preregistration is required for all programs. A description of each program may be found by visiting the Official Web Site (link below). For Environmental Education programs, please call (717)295-2055. For all other programs, please call (717)299-8215.
