Apollo County Park

This 149-acre park is located on the southeastern edge of York County. Acquired in 1969 and named in honor of the Apollo moon landing, the park offers beautiful views of the Susquehanna River and contains native rhododendron and laurel-covered valleys and forested slopes that drop down to the river’s edge. In addition to hiking the famous Mason-Dixon Trail that runs through the park, visitors can enjoy fishing and bird watching.

Bainbridge Access

The Bainbridge Access is part of the Susquehanna River Water Trail - Lower Section. This section of water trail is 53 miles long and offers a tremendous diversity of natural and industrial scenery. The Bainbridge Access adjoins to the park and is the southern trailhead for the Conoy Canal Park Trail, along with connecting to the North West Lancaster County River Trail. The water trail map and guide, interpretive panels, and web site were developed and are managed by the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area. The trail is designated as a National Recreation Trail.

Bellaire Woods Nature Preserve

Bellaire Woods Nature Preserve in Lancaster County’s Mount Joy Township is a 38-acre site featuring a small stream and large boulders that help create plant microclimates. 

Beginning in late April, about 36 typical Lancaster County wildflowers begin to bloom and, literally, carpet the forest floor. You’ll also find the uncommon varieties such as dog violet, sand violet and goldenseal.

This preserve is owned and manageb by the Lancaster County Conservancy.

Blue Rock Heritage Center & Access

Home of the Washintgon Boro Society for Susquehanna River Heritage, this facility and access area are located just south of the village of Washington Boro in Manor Township. The site includes a restored 1832 Whitmer Grist Mill and provides river access for canoes and kayaks to explore the Conejohela Flats. The water access point is part of the 53-mile Susquehanna Water Trail - Lower section, which is managed by the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area and designated as National Recreation Trail.

Boyer Nature Preserve

Nearly 10 acres of undisturbed woods is located along the Little Conestoga Creek in Manor Township, Lancaster County. The Boyer Nature Preserve is replete with songbirds that use the variety of trees, such as silver maple, tulip poplar, black walnuts and white oaks, as cover and find food near the stream. Hundreds of years ago, this part of Lancaster County was known to be the location of one of the largest Native American settlements east of the Mississippi. Susquehannock and Seneca Indians probably waged conflicts on part of this preserve. The preserve is managed by the Lancaster County Conservancy.

Broad Creek Access

The Broad Creek Access area is the last access area for the Susquehanna River Water Trail in Pennsylvania. From this point, the water trail is managed by the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway and joins the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Water Trail. The Susquehanna River Water Trail - Lower Section is a 53 mile National Recreation Trail managed by the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area and is designated as a National Recreation Trail.
