Funding

Since designation as a Pennsylvania Heritage Area in 2001, the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area has leveraged over $1.4 million in local public investment to attract over $9.8 million in state and federal funds and $3.9 million in private contributions to help advance heritage tourism and conservation initiatives throughout Lancaster and York Counties.

As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, SGHA leverages generous contributions from private donors and strong partnerships with local, regional and state agencies to advance our work along the Susquehanna. We operate according to an annual budget, financial plan and auditing process.

SGHA’s approved general operating budget for fiscal year 2011 is $431,942, with approximately 40% funded from state and regional partners, 40% from Lancaster and York Counties, and 20% from private sources. SGHA is also managing about $1.86 million in projects in 2011.

SGHA is supported by private contributions and funding from the following partners:
  • PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
  • Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority
  • Lancaster County
  • York County
  • York County Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • York County Community Foundation
