Along the Susquehanna: How the River Shapres our Region Exhibits & Website

We partnered with the Lancaster County Historical Society & the York County Heritage Trust to to develop Along the Susquehanna: How the River Shapes Our Region, collaborative exhibits & programs highlighting the Susquehanna River's heritage.

Growing Traditions cover and link

An updated & refreshed Growing Traditions Discovery Guide & Website.  The guide contains heritage information about our local agriculture as well as listings of local resources, including downtown farmer's markets, farm markets, roadside stands, farm stays, wineries & heritage attractions. 

Heritage Motor Coach & Group Tours

We worked with Landis Valley Museum, PDCVB, YCCVB & other partners to develop our Heritage Motor Coach & Group Tours, which packages experiences showcasing our cultural & historical resources.

Interactive Website and Heritage Waystations
Launched in 2005 as an online discovery experience, our Interactive Website features itinerary planning for over 200 heritage sites, tours & events throughout the region.  Look for one of our Heritage Waystations (web kiosks) at Bube's Brewery ( Mount Joy), Landis Valley Museum (Lancaster) & the PDCVB Visitors Center (off of Route 30 in Lancaster). 
Lancaster County & York County Heritage Tourism Programs
Lancaster County Heritage & York County Heritage programs - We partnered with the Lancaster County & York County Planning Commissions to initiate a process to refresh and expand the successful Lancaster County Heritage program & create a York County Heritage program. 

The Civil War is alive and well in the North!  We work with Rivertownes PA USA to assist in the coordination of the River Towns Gateway, which is part of the state's regional Pennsylvania Civil War Trails: Prelude to Gettysburg initiative.

River Towns Heritage Development Strategy logo & link

We worked with Rivertownes PA USA, Mary Means & Associates & other local partners to develop the River Towns Heritage Development Strategy, a strategy for economic revitalization in the historic river towns of Marietta, Columbia and Wrightsville.

Stories of the Land
In 2006 with assistance from several partners, we produced and premiered Stories of the Land, the first-ever orientation film showcasing the exceptionally rich heritage shared by Lancaster and York Counties.
Susquehanna Greenway Partnership

With the Susquehanna River running through the middle of our region, we are the coordinating organization for the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership's efforts in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Perry and York Counties. 

Susquehanna Heritage Park & Discovery Center

We have worked & are working with various partners to develop the Susquehanna Heritage Park & Discovery Center, a visionary community partnership to save our scenic Susquehanna River landscape & create a showcase park & education center for residents & visitors.

As part of our Transporting People & Products in York County project, we worked with the York County Heritage Trust and the York County Parks to develop a new guide to the Heritage Rail Trail County Park - The Trailblazer. Copies of the guide are available for purchase at the York County Parks administrative office at Rudy County Park, Nixon County Park Nature Center, New Freedom Train Station, Hanover Junction Train Station, York County Heritage Trust museums' gift shops, and the John & Kathryn Zimmerman Center for Heritage (SGHA's headquarters).  Guidebooks are $5.
Veterans Memorial Bridge Lighting Feasibility Study

We joined forces with  Rivertownes PA USA and Brinjac Engineering to complete the Veterans Memorial Bridge Lighting Feasibility Study.  In addition to restoring the historic lights on the bridge, the study looks at making improvements to the plaza entrances and under lighting of the bridge at night.  We are now working to implement the study.

Visions of the Susquehanna
Partnering with local artist & curator, Rob Evans, we are working to acquire and create a permanent exhibit of Susquehanna River paintings from the highly acclaimed Visions of the Susquehanna exhibit.  The collection is on public display at the John & Kathryn Zimmerman Center for Heritage the First Friday of each month (excluding July 3, 2009), other advertised times and by special appointment.

River goers and paddlers will enjoy the Lower Susquehanna River Water Trail Map & Guide.  Enclosed in a vinyl envelope are 3 waterproof maps.  Additionally, there are 21 interpretive panels are located on both sides of the Susquehanna at public river access points.  Near a few of the interpretive signs, you'll also find signs with safety information.  The $15 map & guide set was updated and re-released in June 2009.  More information is available by clicking on the map.
