The Zimmerman Center for Heritage is home to the Visions of the Susquehanna River Art Collection - a permanent collection of selected contemporary pieces that were part of the traveling exhibit Visions of the Susquehanna: 250 Years of Paintings by American Masters. The original exhibit was organized and curated by York County artist Rob Evans in 2006, and examined the rich tapestry of Susquehanna river art created by an extraordinary number of renowned artists, past and present. The impressive show traveled to six venues in three states.

Following the show, SGHA worked with various funders and private donors to purchase some of the contemporary pieces to keep the collection together and serve as an interpretive exhibit showing the scenic beauty, natural wonder, and rich history of the Susquehanna River. Visions of the Susquehanna is the first and at this point only known permanent collection of Susquehanna River art.
The collection is available for viewing during SGHA’s regular office hours and on the First Friday of each month from 10-3pm, when SGHA offers guided tours of the home. The Visions of the Susquehanna exhibit catalog is available for purchase from our
online store or at the Zimmerman Center for $25.00. An overview of the original travelling exhibit can also be viewed at

SGHA continues to seek donors to help with the on-going stewardship of the collection and to fund future additions to the collection. If you are interested in making a donation to the art fund or sponsoring a painting, please
