Partnerships & Networks
Our success depends on strong, ongoing relationships with key state and national partners whose strategic priorities for the Susquehanna align with our own.
PA DCNR
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) administers the Pennsylvania Heritage Areas Program and coordinates a statewide network of Conservation Landscapes. Susquehanna Heritage collaborates with DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation to fund and implement programs and projects that advance the work of our officially designated Pennsylvania Heritage Area and support the Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape.
National Park Service Chesapeake Bay
The National Park Service Chesapeake Bay administers the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and supports water trails on the bay and its tributaries. Susquehanna Heritage works with the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay to develop and implement a Lower Susquehanna Segment Plan for the trail and establish the Zimmerman Center for Heritage as the trail’s official Visitor Contact & Passport Station for Pennsylvania. We also publish a paddler’s map and guide and maintain a system of river history panels for the Susquehanna River Water Trail-Lower Section, a National Recreation Trail along the river.
We engage with networks of public and non-profit organizations that advocate for and promote the places and issues we care most about.
Our programs, projects and visitor facilities involve partnerships with public and non-profit organizations that share our common interest in river conservation, enhancement, and promotion.
