Enjoy the sights of Lancaster County’s Northwest River Trail on a 2-hour bike tour in the company of a local guide from Susquehanna Heritage. You’ll see important historical sites as well as some of the trail’s popular features.
In addition to cycling along the 190-year-old canal towpath and former railroad, your guide will show you Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, the landmark Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge, Point Rock Tunnel, the Cenozoic-era Chickies Rock Formation, the abandoned pig iron furnace complex, and the Chiques Creek – with some beautiful peeks at the Susquehanna River. Enjoy a pleasant break at the Furnace Road Day Use Area at Chickies Rock County Park.
You’ll see some of the trail’s beautiful but less well-known spots as well. At a number of stops, your guide will tell you about the history of the sites that you’re visiting. At the end of the tour, you can continue your ride on the trail, return to the start point with your guide, or for an additional fee, arrange for a shuttle, kayak, or canoe to bring you back.
Advance registration is required. Please call (717) 449-5607 for details. Due to group size restrictions, groups of 6 or more may be asked to arrange a private tour on another date.
