Homeschool Series

October 15 at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

For homeschool students ages 5-13. Topics focus on the environment, the Susquehanna River and the living systems found along it. Hands-on activities to investigate and form questions about the natural world.

Program is canceled if Columbia Borough School District is closed for weather emergencies

$5.00 per student. Space is limited.

SESSION 2

September 17 – Columbia History and Heritage

Take a walking tour of this vibrant rivertown and it’s regional importance in our National Heritage Area. We will take a short walk up to the historic district and learn about the importance of the river on industry and growth in Columbia. We will then visit the First National Bank Museum for a private tour of this historic landmark.  

October 15 – Susquehanna Study

Discover the history & science of the Susquehanna river Watershed and test the source of our region’s drinking water. Collect water samples and compare nitrate, phosphate, and pH levels. We will discuss what factors in and around the river influence these characteristics of the water.

November 19 – Birding/ Bird Migration

Have you ever wondered where birds live and what they look for in a habitat? Learn about bird migration as well as what birds can be found along the Susquehanna River and what birds stop over during their annual migrations. 

December 17 – Building Bridges

Explore the history of the SIX bridges that spanned our section of the Susquehanna. Learn about engineering practices used to build bridges and create your own bridge to support a variety of challenges and weights.
