National Junior Ranger Day
April 20, 2019
12:30 PM – 1:45 PM AND 2 PM – 4 PM
The Zimmerman Center for Heritage is Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail Visitor Contact Station and has a real NPS Park Ranger! Bring your child to meet the ranger, explore the history and environmental importance of the Susquehanna in these two amazing programs. Children who complete the activities can earn ranger materials. Program is free but preregistration is required.
JUNIOR GREEN RANGER PROGRAM – 12:30 PM TO 1:45 PM
Celebrate Earth Day by participating in the Junior Green Ranger Program. Geared to 9 to-12 year old children, this program focuses on reducing your environmental footprint, how rain gardens help the Susquehanna River and how parks conserve energy. Participants will be guided through the program by National Park Service and Susquehanna Heritage staff. Completing the activities earns a Junior Green Ranger patch.
JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM- 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
For ages 6 to 12 years old, you’ll experience a scavenger hunt at the Contact Station, a short hike to the adjacent Native Lands County Park to learn about the Susquehannock Indians, and a presentation on Susquehanna River wildlife to complete this Junior Ranger book and earn a Captain John Smith Chesapeake Trail Junior Ranger badge. Participants will be guided through the program by National Park Service and Susquehanna Heritage staff.
PLUS the Roving Ranger will be on site with a special Chesapeake Bay Ranger Badge!
