Stars Over the Susquehanna
April 26 at 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Back for 2019! Come to the river for an “out of this world” experience! Join Susquehanna Heritage at both of their locations to Find Your Park After Dark.
At Columbia Crossing, join your friends and neighbors for a star party at Columbia River Park with the Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County (AELC) to explore the cosmos up close with telescopes.
7:30 PM – a presentation by the AELC will take place inside Columbia Crossing River Trails Center. The talk this year will be given by Tom Lugar on Naked Eye and Binocular Astronomy in Moderate Light Polluted Skies.
8:00 PM – 10 PM – Star Party in Columbia River Park. Telescopes will be set up by the AELC and binoculars will be available for use.
At The Zimmerman Center for Heritage, bring the kids to become Junior Rangers. Both adults and kids can explore the skies with the York County Astronomical Society.
7:30 – 8:45 PM – Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities. Animals at night, constellations, planet walk, and more!
8:00 PM – 10 PM – York County Astronomical Society members will provide telescopes for public viewing of the night skies.
New this year! At both sites, children ages 5-12 can complete the Night Explorer Junior Ranger Badge! Kids can then become a sworn in as Junior Ranger by the National Park Service at The Zimmerman Center and get their own patch. Patches and books will also be available at Columbia Crossing.
Program will be held rain or shine. Star party and telescope viewing will not place in the event of poor weather conditions.
